This blog is here to help assist those new to Oxford Brookes university and wish to have a better understanding of the John Henry Brookes and Clerici buildings.

Following Construction 

John Henry Brookes: 1891-1976

Construction on the JHB building began in January 2011 and was completed on the 24th of February 2014
The building was the winner of multiple awards like the Royal Institute of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Oxford Preservation Trust New Building Award. 

The Clerici Building

The Clerici Building is just a short walk from John Henry Brookes, Plans for it's constructing Clerici began in 2015 and finished last year.

The Reception is the first thing you will see once you enter JHB, where someone will greet to you to answer any questions you have or direct you.

For those concerned about health and safety their are multiple fire exits for people to evacuate the building from in the event of a dangerous incident. Furthermore, there are several Bins, which divide Rubbish divided it to specific categorises to simplify recycling and disposal spread throughout the building, especially in the dining areas.
Solar Panels can be found on top of the JHB Building, they reduce the buildings carbon emissions by 4% as well as supplying electricity.
Rain water from the roof is stored in the central courtyard around 50% is recycled, either for drinking or used in the Toilet facilities. By controlling the flow of water from the roof, it decreases the chance of blocking the sewer system.

The JHB building has 5 levels which can be accessed via several flights of stairs or elevators.

Lift in Clerici 

 

On the second floor is the Lecture theatre where most talks for new comers will take place. It is located at the top of the stairs next to the reception.

For study, there is easy access to Computers, in the main hall and close to the classrooms, for instance here on the 2nd floor.
